What the Kerala State Lotteries are

The Kerala State Lotteries are run by the Kerala State Lotteries Department, part of the state government's Taxes Department, and have operated since 1967. Kerala was the first Indian state to run its own lottery, and it remains one of the few where paper tickets are sold through a licensed agent network rather than online.

A draw is held almost every day of the week, each under its own scheme name. Tickets are printed in series, sold through agents across the state, and drawn publicly in Thiruvananthapuram. Results are published by the department and then mirrored by sites and apps such as this one.

How to read a ticket

A Kerala lottery ticket number is two letters followed by six digits — for example, AB 123456. The two letters identify the series the ticket was printed in; the six digits identify the ticket within that series.

The ticket also carries the scheme name, the draw date, the ticket price, and the agent's details. The barcode encodes the same number, which is what the app's scanner reads when you point a camera at it.

How a draw works

Draws are held in public and the winning numbers are announced tier by tier, starting with the first prize and working down. The department publishes an official result gazette afterwards, which is the authoritative record.

Because the announcement happens progressively, results appear here in stages too: the first prize lands well before the lower tiers are complete. A draw is only finished once every tier has been published and cross-checked against the official list.

Prize tiers, and how matching works

The top tiers — first, second, third and consolation — publish whole ticket numbers, series letters included. To win one of these, your entire number must match, series and all.

From the fourth prize downwards, the department publishes only the last four digits. Any ticket ending in those four digits wins that tier, whatever its series. This is why a single published number at the lower tiers corresponds to many winning tickets across the state.

Consolation prizes go to tickets carrying the first-prize number in every other series — a near miss by series rather than by digits.

Checking a result

Compare your number against the published list for the draw printed on your ticket, and only that draw. A number that wins on one date wins nothing on another.

Check the whole list rather than stopping at the top: most wins are in the lower tiers, where only the last four digits are compared.

Whatever any app or site tells you, the official result gazette published by the Kerala State Lotteries Department is what decides a claim. Treat a digital result as a convenience for looking, and the gazette as the record.

Claiming a prize

Winning tickets must be surrendered with the required documents within 30 days of the draw. Where you claim depends on how much you have won — smaller prizes can be collected from an agent, larger ones must go to the district lottery office or the directorate.

Buying tickets

Kerala lottery tickets are sold on paper, by licensed agents, within the state. Selling them online is not permitted, and neither this app nor this site sells tickets or takes any part in a purchase.

Anything offering to sell you a Kerala state lottery ticket over the internet is not operating within the rules, whatever it claims. Buy from an agent, and keep the physical ticket — it is the only thing a prize can be claimed against.

About prediction, luck and numbers

The app publishes number feeds — recently repeated numbers, numbers not drawn for a while, board picks — and they are worth being clear about. Each draw is independent. A number that has not appeared for months is no more likely to appear tomorrow than any other, and one that appeared last week is no less likely.

These feeds describe what has already happened. They are patterns in past results, not signals about future ones, and no arrangement of them improves anyone's odds.
